Phase of the Funan Techo Canal Project Underway

Phnom Penh: On the morning of December 10, 2024, an inter-ministerial team led by Peng Purna, Minister of Public Works and Transport, conducted an inspection of the Funan Techo Canal project site. The team, which heads the Special Technical Working Group responsible for establishing regulations and preparing detailed maps for the project, focused on data collection, verification of regulations, and setting land boundaries along the canal's first section, spanning 21 kilometers from Prek Takeo to Prek Por.

The technical working group is set to inspect and evaluate the mapping and monitoring efforts at the Prek Takeo location, which serves as a gateway to the Mekong River, and will progress towards the Prek Por area along the Bassac River.

Prior to commencing this crucial phase of data collection and land boundary demarcation, the technical team underwent training on December 5-6, 2024, on the use of DGPS-RTK technology. This training provided the team with essential knowledge and skills needed for accurately determining and demarcating land boundaries for the Funan Techo Canal Navigation Project.

This training and subsequent activities aim to establish a clear understanding of the land impacts on residents living alongside the canal, facilitating a smoother transition towards the implementation of the Funan Techo Canal Navigation Project. The project is poised to enhance navigation and transportation infrastructure in the region, contributing to economic development and connectivity.
